When your computer starts, you’ll be presented with the Windows installation wizard, which will walk you through the process. Reboot your PC and follow the steps below. It’s likely set to boot from your hard drive first. Shortcut keys listed at the bottom of the screen let you make changes to the wipe process. When ready tap F10 to commence the wipe process. Tap Space to flag the drive with the wipe flag. You may need to access your computer’s BIOS and change the boot order. Use the arrow keys to select the device you wish to wipe. Next, you’ll need to boot your computer from the DVD or USB drive. Turn on Storage Sense to have Windows delete unnecessary files automatically. The Windows Media Creation tool will guide you through theĬreation of a bootable USB drive or DVD. Select Start > Settings > System > Storage. You’ll need to find your Windows Product Key. Usually, it is 'Del' or 'F8.' Step 4 Scroll down through the list to 'Boot Priority Option.' This is where you make the settings for BIOS to start automatically from disk, which is needed for formatting the drive. We can also show you where to get Windows 8.1 or 7 ISOs. Enter your computers BIOS screen by pressing the key (or keys) indicated at the beginning of the computers start up process. If that’s not an option, you can download an official ISO of Windows 10 using the Windows Media Creation Tool or just your web browser. Using the manufacturer’s official Windows installation is the best way to go, as it will have all the hardware drivers specific to the make and model of your computer. If you didn’t make one when you got your computer, now’s the time to do that. You can even extend/shrink partition, format the Drive, and more. Many laptop and computer makers have utilities built into their Windows installs to help you create these recovery drives. Windows disk management utility lets you write zeros to a drive, securely erasing its content.
